CAMPBELL, JAMES WILLIAM Born on Aug. 17, 1936, and on April 27, 2004, our precious and beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend joined his Lord to gain the peace and tranquillity promised in eternal life. His family and friends will greatly miss his presence, dedication, humor and kindness he showed each of them. His journey through treatments was an example of the courage, strength and faith which will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. His faith lifted him up and was evident to those around him. He had been in the work force for some 47 years and the last 20 years were with the Department of Public Works. His love for his job had served as an instrument to help him fight the battle and not lose hope. There are many people he dealt with through his job who were very complimentary of his concern, professional manner and dedication to help them. This was shown in letters written to his superiors and sent to the mayor of our city. Retirement had not been considered until the disease process made it impossible to perform his duties to the highest he set as his goal. To the physicians, Dr. Mary Stringfellow, Dr. Fabrega, Dr. Brooks, the chemo staff at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, Dr. Maurice King and the radiation staff at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, our family extends our heartfelt gratitude for not only their kindness in treatment but also for the expressions of kindness shown to J.W. and to the family. J.W. and his family were comforted knowing his treatments were planned with empathy, concern, great knowledge and with the Lord's guiding hand. To our friends, our words are surely not enough to express the depth of our appreciation. As we went through the valleys, the Lord would always have a friend there to give a helping hand, an encouraging word or a hug. To the staff and our Sunday school class at Istrouma Baptist Church, we want you to know we feel you went beyond what we could have ever imagined to stand by us and help us during this time. All of the gestures were the Earthly expressions of our Lord's presence. To God be the glory for all the blessings experienced during this trial. J.W., known as "Bubba" to longtime friends, was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church, UCT and enjoyed the hours spent in his yard. His family was his pride and joy and everything he accomplished was for them. The caretaker of our family members was always a great part of his life. He had looked forward to retirement and really never realized the extent of peace and wonder he would have. Survived by loving wife and friend of 46 years, Mary Jo Miller Campbell; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Stan Woods; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Suzanne Campbell; and three of his most treasured blessings from God, his grandchildren, Kayla Elizabeth, Brent Michael and Philip Curtis Campbell; mother, Grace Campbell; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Lester Arnold; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Bobbie Campbell; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob and Joyce Miller, whom he enjoyed their company and travel, and Jim and Eunice Miller; aunts, Gerline Miller and Gertie Nachod and husband Gus Nachod; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his father, Curtis Lee Campbell; maternal grandparents, James and Myrth Simeon; paternal grandparents, John and Ethel Campbell; a cousin, Jimmy McKigney; and many aunts and uncles on his mother and father's side of the family. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, and 9 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Sullivan, J.P. Averette, Carroll DiBenedetto, Hugh McLaurin, Wilson Russell, Donald Nichols and Bucky Thibodeaux. Honorary pallbearers are Brent Michael Campbell, Philip Curtis Campbell, Bob Miller, Jim Miller, Frank Iueli, Ray Summers, Wayne Knight, Tommy Dawson and Hulon Walters.
